Responsibility is the sum of many factors
Finnish Muumi Baby diapers are now 100% carbon neutral, so the planet’s smallest inhabitants will be able to enjoy clean nature in the future, too. With over 40 years of experience, our group of loving mums and dads manufacture Muumi Baby diapers at Finland’s only diaper factory in Tammisaari.
Carbon-neutral diapering begins now
At Muumi Baby, we want to invest in our children’s future with everyday actions now, not in decades to come. That’s why our diaper manufacturing process considers the environmental friendliness of the product’s entire life cycle, so that future generations can enjoy our shared nature.
We wanted to thoroughly investigate the greenhouse gas emissions created by Muumi Baby diapers. We are now proud to announce that our diapers are 100% carbon neutral. The diapers are carbon neutral due to the following factors:
How the world’s best Muumi Baby diapers are made.
You can find a thorough carbon footprint report here.
Only certified hydropower
Our production only uses electricity produced with certified hydropower. Hydropower is a renewable source of energy that does not generate any carbon dioxide emissions at all. This choice reduces our carbon footprint by 285 CO2 tons per year, which is equivalent to heating 100 single-family homes for a year, or a 1.4 million-kilometre-long journey in a petrol car!
NO Production waste goes to LANDFILL
We have succeeded in minimising the quantity of our production waste so that none of it goes to landfill! We recycle all of our production waste, or burn it and use it as energy.
Designed and manufactured in Finland
Muumi Baby diapers are designed and manufactured in Finland from only the cleanest and safest raw materials. We always strive to favour Finnish material suppliers or providers, thereby also supporting Finnish employment. In recognition of this, our diapers bear the Key Flag symbol
For a cleaner future
Our work for a cleaner future continues as part of everyday routine at the Muumi Baby factory. Our next development will be the implementation of solar power in spring 2021.
What is a carbon footprint?
A carbon footprint refers to the environmental load created by a certain action or product – in this case, Muumi Baby diapers – as a result of the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Calculations are included in every phase of our diapers’ life cycle, from raw material production to diaper manufacture, energy sources, wholesale logistics, and waste management.
Using solar power to manufacture diapers!
Muumi Baby diapers are manufactured using 100% renewable energy. Our diaper factory switched to renewable hydropower more than 10 years ago, and in spring 2021, we will also begin to use solar power. Solar power is supplied to the factory using our own power cables from Raaseporin Energia’s solar park, which is located right next to our diaper factory. The best results are achieved through collaboration, and together we can influence what we leave behind for future generations.
Our carbon-neutral diapers are manufactured using renewable energy. Below you’ll see our daily solar power production using our factory’s own solar cell, and the rest of our diapers are manufactured using renewable hydropower.

For a cleaner future
The carbon neutrality of Muumi Baby diapers is a big step and concrete action for a cleaner future. However, we won’t settle for this, and are continuing to work on even more responsible diapers. One of our next developments will be the implementation of solar power at our factory in spring 2021. You can find our thorough carbon footprint report in full here.
Our entire company shares bold and educational values that respect our shared nature. Let’s work together for a cleaner future. Every choice is significant.
Babies’ sensitive skin requires a skin-friendly diaper that is as absorbent as possible. Our diapers’ new and improved absorption capability and structure distribute moisture evenly throughout the diaper, without compromising on effectiveness.
Thanks to our development work, nowadays we use significantly fewer superabsorbents than many other industry competitors, but our diapers are at least as absorbent.
We are a Finnish family-owned company and Finland’s only manufacturer of disposable diapers. We make diapers with more than forty years of experience and directly employ almost 100 Finnish industry professionals at Finland’s only diaper factory in Tammisaari. The cellulose used in our diapers comes from FSC-certified Finnish coniferous forests, and is e.g. entirely dioxin-free. We know a thing or two about diapers. We also know that the nature that surrounds us all is just as sensitive as a newborn baby’s skin, so we want to ensure the wellbeing of both.
It matters what you put on your baby’s sensitive skin. The main absorbent material in our diapers is pure FSC-certified cellulose that has not been chlorine-bleached. We are continuously developing our diapers to be cleaner and environmentally friendlier, and that’s why we use significantly fewer superabsorbents than many leading brands.
The other materials in the diaper that are in direct contact with the baby’s skin are made from soft plant-based material or FSC-certified fibre that has water-permeable and water-repellent properties. Muumi Baby diapers are a gentle and care-free option, as all of our raw materials meet the stringent requirements of the certificates we have been awarded. Our diapers never contain fragrances, chlorine, dioxin or lotions.
As our customer base is made up of the youngest inhabitants on our planet, we want to invest in the wellbeing of both children and the environment. Some of our current customers will still be on the Earth in one hundred years, so we want them to have an Earth to live on and enjoy. Our operations consider the entire life cycle of the product with regard to the environment, from the selection of raw materials to the product’s disposal. Our environmentally responsible operations are guaranteed by the certificates we have been awarded, such as the FSC certificate and the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. The criteria set by these are a good point of departure for us, but we are continuously developing our products and production in an increasingly environmentally friendly direction. We are happy to receive feedback and ideas on how we can make our products even more environmentally friendly.
